The fabric of Britain as we know it is being ripped apart. So much is changing, almost behind our backs, we haven't got time to notice what is happening to us. And it is happening fast.

A Workfare Carol

To the tune of Whilst Shepherds Watched Their Flocks

Whilst mothers watched their babes by night,
In mouldy and damp rooms,
The government announced a plan,
To save the land from doom.

Fear not, said Smith, for mighty dread
Had seized their troubled mind.
You will not starve, if you work hard,
Tho your ESA was declined.

For you, in London town, this day
Will join the Workfare line
A Saviour, which is Poundstretcher,
And this shall be the sign.

The slave labour you there shall find
With no legal recourse,
Will cost you more in fares and hope,
But you'll rejoin the workforce.

Thus spake the ConDem, and forthwith
The mother's toil was set,
The voters praised Ian Duncan Smith,
For reducing the great debt.

All glory be to Cameron,
And to Gideon be peace;
Good William Hague and Nick the Vague,
watch the income gap increase.

  1. Oh, that made me laugh (in a sick sort of way). Great work! I especially like the last verse. "Nick the Vague" may catch on ... it should, anyway.

    Thank you.

  2. Sorry but I didn't find your lyrics remotely funny.

Perhaps if you can do one about how thirteen years of New Labour wrecked this country?

  5. Actually I find Labour just as bad as the Cons & Dems at the moment. You'd be hard pushed to find enough competent parliamentarians, of any flavour, to stitch a worthwhile party together. Which is probably why we didn't elect ANY party, if you remember.

Nick the Vague's a particular disappointment, though - as half of this accidental administration, all he has to do is say No more firmly and more often. Bit too fond of his 'nice guy' persona, I fear.

  6. New Labour, what a joke, borrowing money like there was no tomorrow, creating a nation of benefit junkies.

One thing I regret is that Stalin Brown bottled his opportunity to go to the people after he first ascended to the throne. Labour would probably have got in again and then I would have had the pleasure of observing the red rose donkey voters watch their little make believe socialist fairy tale crumble into dust.

  7. I agree that Labour are just as disappointing as ConDems at the moment, but putting all the blame on them for the recession is disingenuous.

The entire Western world is going through a recession at the moment, it cannot all be Brown's fault, in the same way that it is not all the fault of the banks.

We have to stop apportioning blame and looking back, and start looking forward to how we can get the country out of this mess, without the most vulnerable having to carry the can.

"A nation of benefit junkies" -I think that you need to go back and read some of the posts on this blog to hear how that simply isn't true. Particularly the post "From the Cradle to the Grave" highlights the issues that we have in UK with regard to benefits.
